There are multiple advantages to buying smartphones from brands whose products consistently appear on the list of best quality smartphones. One major benefit is that they all offer unique features to not only stand out from the crowd but also make things easier for the users. What unique features you get depend on what brand you choose, but for the Google Pixel, its Camera app is particularly interesting because it offers some handy features that are often overlooked.

One such functionality in the Pixel Camera is the ability to quickly share shots you take with friends and family using a simple trick. However, it looks like Google has removed the underrated sharing feature from its Camera app in the latest update. Also troubling for Pixel users is that the latest version of the app doesn’t include a new feature that was supposed to arrive with the update.

The Google Pixel Camera app is missing social sharing and one more feature

As first spotted by 9to5Google, Google updated its Pixel Camera app to version 9.9 via the Google Play Store after rolling out the June 2025 Feature Drop. The update introduces some notable changes, but there are still enough reasons to be disappointed as well. After installing the latest update, the folks over at 9to5Google found out that the Social share feature is missing from the Pixel Camera app settings.

The Social share feature allows users to quickly share their clicked photos as Instagram stories or messages through the app of their choice. All you have to do is swipe up the circular preview that appears on the left to the shutter button, and it will bring up quick shortcuts to share your photos with the apps that you selected to appear in the menu. You can not select more than three apps to appear in the menu alongside the default Quick Share option appearing at the bottom.

However, all these features are now gone since there is no Social share in the Pixel Camera app settings. That means you now have to open those clicked images in full to share. It’s unclear whether this is a bug or if Google intentionally removed the feature. The latter is unlikely given Google’s previous records of breaking the Social share feature. It’ll be interesting to see if Google comes up with an explanation or quietly fixes it in a future update.

In addition to the Social share feature, the “education hub” feature is also missing from the latest version of the Pixel Camera. This was supposed to be available in Pixel Camera v9.9, but we don’t see the circular question mark button in the top right corner of the Camera viewfinder. But this doesn’t seem to be a big issue, as Google can push a server-side update anytime to fix this.
