It took a while, but Google finally introduced Calling Cards last year as Android’s alternative to Apple’s Contact Cards feature for iPhones. While it’s an exciting addition to an otherwise bland calling experience on Android, Calling Cards is far from perfect.
It also doesn’t help that the option is hidden within the Google Phone app’s settings page. This means several users may not even be aware of the feature, despite on-screen prompts encouraging them to check it out. Google seems to have recognized this situation and is now devising a method to give Calling Cards more visibility.
Looking through the Google Contacts app (version 4.72.5.862509763), the folks at Android Authority have found and activated a new option to access Calling Cards within the Organize tab. However, it appears at the bottom of the page under the ‘This device‘ section, which is not the ideal position for boosting its visibility.
This new option in the Organize tab redirects users to the Google Phone app’s Calling Cards management screen, per Android Authority. While this isn’t a major feature, its placement in the Organize tab makes sense, given that Calling Cards are already available across both apps.
There could soon be more reasons to use this particular feature, as Google is finally working on letting users set up their own cards. Work on this feature was first revealed in a leak several months ago, though it’s still not widely rolled out.
The Google Phone app’s Call Screen page braces for a design refresh
In addition to the new access point for Calling Cards within the Contacts app, Google is also bringing some long-overdue design changes to one of the Phone app’s settings pages. Specifically, Call Screen is bracing for a proper Material 3 Expressive makeover, in line with several other Google apps.
There are no other major changes present here, though the visual upgrade is certainly welcome. Also notable is the removal of the animation at the top of the current Call Screen page, which frees up significant real estate. This particular tweak was spotted in the Phone app (version 208.0.86458142), and we expect it to be widely available over the next few weeks.
If you’re not seeing the Call Screen page in your Phone app’s settings page, it’s because the feature is limited to a few countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, France, and others.
