Summary

  • Google is rolling out a new, simpler account switcher to more of its apps.
  • This new navigation allows users to switch between multiple Google profiles more easily from a collapsible menu within the app.
  • The update aims to streamline account management, moving away from a multi-step process to switch accounts.

Some of Google’s popular apps are pre-installed on almost all Android phones, and while that may sound anti-competitive to other app developers, users can save time and effort in finding and installing them on their device. On the contrary, there are also quite a few Google apps that aren’t included in the first boot experience. However, that’s not to say that these are the most neglected ones.

While Google has a reputation for giving up on numerous products and services too quickly, the Mountain View tech giant doesn’t shy away from updating shared design elements across all its apps, including those that are not so popular, to ensure consistency. This is reflected in the way Google has recently introduced a small new design tweak into three more of its apps, two of which aren’t usually pre-installed on Android phones, to save you time and effort.

Three more Google apps now have the useful new profile navigation

Google has been known to be working on a new account switcher for its apps since last year. Google Keep was the app where the company spotted testing the new account switcher, and then it slowly started appearing on many of its other apps, indicating that it intends to introduce the feature across all its apps. Last week, it started rolling out the new account switcher in Google Maps, becoming the first one to receive it via an update.

Google Keep and many other Google apps, where Google reportedly started testing the new account switcher first, haven’t received the feature yet. On the other hand, it has now started rolling out the new account navigation to three more apps, including Google Wallet, Tasks, and Translate. The new account switcher isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it does make things a lot simpler to manage multiple profiles in these apps.

Previously, it required you to navigate to the profile page and then tap the “Manage your Google account” option, followed by one more tap on your email to switch to your other account. The new account switcher keeps things simple by allowing all your accounts in a collapsible menu: all you have to do is tap on it and switch. The new account switcher also includes the option to add another account and the ability to manage accounts on the device.

According to Android Authority, the redesigned account switcher is available in Translate version 9.9.58.761479923.3-release, Wallet version 25.20.761154377, and Tasks version 2025.05.19.760395213.0-release. If you don’t see it after installing these updates, make sure to quit and reopen the apps. While the updated account switcher coming to more Google apps is good news, it’s worth noting that Google Maps is currently the only Play Store app with 10 billion installs to get it.
