Google Maps has become a core tool for most people looking to find directions to a new location. And while using our phones is probably one of the more common ways, we’ve also seen better integration with vehicles thanks to connectivity via Android Auto.
Of course, some manufacturers like Polestar have taken it a step further, offering Android Automotive as the vehicle’s default in-vehicle experience. This collaboration has been in place for quite some time, with the brand delivering constant updates.
Nothing major, but it’s good to see
Now, Polestar has shared at SXSW London that it will bring a new change to the UI for the Google Maps experience (via Android Authority). The small change will bring more consistency when it comes to the UIs found in the vehicle, providing a more seamless visual experience.
While this will be exciting news for some Polestar owners, it doesn’t look like this is something that will be life-changing for most, judging by the comments surrounding the announcement. Instead, current Polestar owners in the comments section seem to be more concerned about getting current bugs in the software fixed over cosmetic changes.
They’d like to see Polestar make the “GPS location accurate” or fixing “speed limit detection”. There are also quite a few people chiming in about the poor quality of the software found on the more modern Polestar 3. With that said, this update is set to arrive to all Polestar vehicles in the “coming weeks” which, again, some might find exciting.
So, if you own a Polestar, you’ll want to be on the lookout for the small change. Android Automotive isn’t as huge when compared to Google’s other software projects, but it’s slowly starting to penetrate the automobile market.
