I keep my work email organized, but my personal Gmail is like the wild west, with an unread email count at five digits, thousands of promotional emails and newsletters I never unsubscribed from, and a lot more digital clutter.
To an extent, Gmail does try to bring some order to my chaotic inbox by automatically sorting emails into buckets like Spam, Purchases, Social, Updates, Forums, and Promotions. And now, it looks like Google could be working on adding two new highly practical categories to the mix.
Found in Gmail’s latest build version 2025.10.06.815599742.Release by the folks over at Android Authority, it looks like Google is working on adding distinct labels for emails that fall under ‘Bills’ and ‘Travel’ categories. The two categories are currently dormant, but their code strings make it very clear that they’re coming.
Their arrival is still up in the air
<string name="label_name_bills">Bills</string>
<string name="label_name_travel">Travel</string>
How exactly Google intends to distinguish bills from purchases remains to be seen. It is likely that the existing purchases label will continue categorizing one-off receipts, while bills would highlight recurring financial obligations like credit card statements.
Travel, on the other hand, will be a simpler label, essentially consolidating all emails regarding flights, hotels, rental car bookings, and akin into one dedicated folder.
As is the case with any early leak, it isn’t entirely clear if and when the new labels will go live. The code strings don’t reveal much in terms of progress, but their very presence in a public build of the app suggests that Google is actively working on the new labels.
