Despite the abundance of navigation apps on Android, Google Maps remains one of the best options available. It comes pre-installed on most devices and offers an easy-to-use interface. While Google keeps changing things around with the Maps app — occasionally removing some essential features — it also continues to add new ones from time to time.
It now appears that Google is working on tweaking the part of the app that displays information about a place. As spotted by app researcher AssembleDebug (via Android Authority) in Google Maps version 25.29.00.782600971, the company seems to have made a few changes to the Overview tab on the listing page.
Currently, the “popular times” section appears way down the listing, below the reviews and Q&A sections. But with the new update, Google seems to be streamlining things by placing it directly below the “Open and Close” time section.

In addition to this, Google appears to be incorporating more Material 3 Expressive design updates into the app. Previously, sections like tickets, description, hours, and website were divided by horizontal lines. With the new UI, each of these now appears in card-like containers with a slightly darker background — similar to what we’ve seen in other Google apps like Phone and Gmail.
The researcher also noted that Google is making buttons for options like Suggest an edit, Add a missing place, Add your business to Maps for free, and Measure distance more prominent. These previously blended into the background and were easy to miss, but they’re now styled as clear buttons, making them easier for users to spot.
These changes aren’t live yet — at least not on any of my devices, including the Google Pixel 9 or OnePlus 13. It seems the app researcher manually enabled the features to preview the new UI. However, since the changes are already functional in the frontend, the official rollout shouldn’t be too far off. We’ll keep you posted as more updates roll out to Google Maps.
