Google Password Manager may not be the best password management app out there, but it’s certainly one many of us rely on for our Android devices. It comes built-in and syncs seamlessly with Google Chrome on desktops. The app hasn’t seen a major design update in months, but it looks like the one we’ve been waiting for may finally be on the way.

As spotted by app researcher AssembleDebug (via Android Authority), Google is working on redesigning Password Manager with the new Material 3 Expressive design language. Material 3 Expressive was announced at last month’s Google I/O, and the company has been updating many of its apps to match, including the Phone app, Gmail, and even the Play Store. Now it appears that Google Password Manager is next.

With Material 3 Expressive, Google Password Manager will support Android’s dynamic theming system. Just like other apps that pull colors from your wallpaper to match your phone’s aesthetic, Password Manager will now do the same. The app used to default to a light blue theme by default until now, but it’ll now be able to pull the same theme as other Google apps on your phone.

A colorful Material makeover is coming to the Google Password Manager

The header text has been replaced by a clean search bar with the Password Manager logo on the left. Below the search bar, there are new filters that will let users differentiate passwords from passkeys. Other Material 3 elements, like updated toggles and buttons, are also visible in screenshots shared by the publication.

The update isn’t rolling out just yet. It was spotted in Google Play Services version 25.25.31 beta, and had to be manually enabled for testing. However, since the UI is already functioning in beta, the rollout likely isn’t far off. We’ll keep you posted as soon as Google starts pushing the new design to users.
