It’s no secret that Google Gemini is one of the top names in the generative AI business today. Google’s chatbot offers a suite of tools to both free and paying subscribers, including the ability to draft entire documents or generate images and videos.
Currently, all of your creations in Gemini are placed under ‘My Stuff‘ based on recency, rather than a more efficient category-based grouping system. We’re now learning that Google is working on exactly this, possibly for a future update.
The code sleuths at Android Authority dug into version 16.50.55.sa.arm64 (beta) of the Google app to unlock an updated UI for My Stuff, separating content by Media and Documents based on the type of item you’ve created with the chatbot.
What’s the Purchases section for?
Current vs upcoming
While the categorization of documents and media is simple enough to understand, Android Authority has also uncovered a ‘Purchases‘ section. As the publication notes, this is likely a hub for all the purchases the user made using the AI-based shopping experience Google released in November. But there could just as likely be another explanation for this section within My Stuff.
In addition to these changes, Google is also reportedly testing a revamp of the prompt bar, though it appears to be at an early stage. As the second screenshot above shows, the prompt bar is placed inside a container, rather than as a sheet from the bottom of the screen.
Frequent users of the Gemini app will remember that this is exactly what the prompt bar used to look like until Google switched it in September, so perhaps there’s some intent to restore that layout. Based on the placement of menus and some icons, it’s clear this redesign is nowhere close to the final implementation.
Furthermore, the Gemini app also appears to be working on providing haptic feedback whenever the user enters a prompt and when the result is nearly ready.
However, Android Authority notes that this function may be limited to the Gemini app and may not work when the Gemini overlay is activated. Still, it’s a nice feature that many Gemini users would like to have, though we hope Google provides a toggle to enable or disable it rather than making it the default.
Of all these changes to the Gemini app, the reorganized My Stuff section is the one I’m looking forward to the most, though it’s unclear when either feature will be widely rolled out.
