If you’re someone that’s heavily reliant on Google products and services, there’s a pretty good chance you use Google Drive to store all your data. For the most part, it’s a pretty good service, and Google has done a great job adding some features here and there to make it a strong product when compared against its competitors.

Of course, when something is so complete, it’s the small details that really start to matter, and you can bet that Google is always looking for ways to improve the experience. With that said, the folks at 9to5Google have picked up on a visual update that brings back a Material 3 Expressive design that was once rolled back.

It’s here to stay for now

Now, it’s important to note that this visual update is something that we’ve seen before. 9to5Google shares that this visual update rolled out previously but was pulled for some reason. Although it’s a server-side update, the news outlet was able to see the changes running version 2.25.497.5 of Google Drive on Android.

As far as what you should expect, the file list has now been improved and should now show up within a container. This also brings a more even look, with a slight change to the shape and dimensions thanks to increased padding on the left and right sides.

There are other small changes, like the selection indicators for My Drive and Computers sections, which have now been slimmed down. For the most part, if you’re someone that uses Google Drive on Android every day, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see or at least feel a difference.

On the other hand, even if you’re someone that uses Google Drive frequently, these changes are pretty easy to miss. When it comes to functionality, you’re not going to notice much.

It’s just the beginning

With Google Drive being such a big part of its current offerings, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see lots of new things arrive on the platform. And while visual updates and features are nice, we’re hoping that Google will provide just a bit more storage for base plans.

Again, if you’re using Google Drive on Android, this new visual update should be available on your device. Just make sure to download the latest version. It’s nothing major, but some will appreciate the new look for sure.
