The rumors were true. Forza Horizon 6 is in development at Playground Games, is set in Japan, and will launch for PC and Xbox Series X in 2026. Eventually, it will make its way to PS5 as well.
This announcement came as part of a Tokyo Game Show livestream hosted by Microsoft. That presentation also featured the reveal of Gungrave Gore: Blood Heat and other Xbox-related announcements.
When will Forza Horizon 6 be released?
And what else was revealed during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast?
Forza Horizon 6’s teaser trailer is only about a minute long, but it shows enough to confirm the Japan setting and 2026 release window for PC and Xbox Series X. An Xbox Wire post also confirms a PlayStation version is in the works, but has no release window.
That blog also includes more concrete details about the racing game, as the trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay. Like its predecessors, Forza Horizon 6 will be an open-world racing game rather than an intense simulator. While it won’t be entirely accurate to a real-life map of Japan, the game’s take on the country will blend together different well-known places in Japan, like Tokyo and Mount Fuji.
Developers also teased that the game will take full advantage of Japan’s unique car scene, even if it isn’t revealing a list of vehicles just yet. The season-changing system from the last couple of Forza Horizon games is also confirmed to return, with each season now has unique audio design rather than it being a purely visual overhaul.
According to Xbox, we’ll learn more about the game early next year. Forza Horizon 6 was definitely the most notable announcement from Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 Broadcast, but it wasn’t the only announcement.
Other first-party and third-party games were shown off. On the first-party front, Ninja Gaiden 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 got new trailers, while DLC and future updates for Age of Mythology: Retold and Micorsoft Flight Simulator 2024 were teased.
Regarding third-party announcements, studios like IO Interactive, Square Enix, and Capcom also participated. IO Interactive revealed that actress Gemma Chan will be in 007 First Light and that Hitman’s next Elusive Target is Bruce Lee. Square Enix shadow-dropped Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven on Xbox Series X, while Capcom confirmed it’s porting the first two Monster Hunter Stories games over to Xbox as well.
Other games that got trailers include Aniimo, Double Dragon Revive, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, Hotel Barcelona, Mistfall Hunter, Winter Burrow, Project Evilbane, Rhythm Doctor, Starsand Island, Sudden Strike 5, Terminull Brigade, and the newly announced Gungrave Gore: Blood Heat.
It didn’t have quite as interesting of a lineup as the most recent Nintendo Direct and State of Play showcases, but this showcase still contained quite a few reveals that Xbox players might be interested in.
