In a day and age when users rarely have good things to say about carriers and ISPs, some AT&T customers are actually reporting surprise bill reductions. Without asking, these people are getting an email or text promising $20 off their monthly fiber internet bill for the next 12 months, amounting to $240 in total savings. There doesn’t seem to be a big catch, either, although it’s currently limited to fiber internet plans, and there’s no way to tell (for now) if you’ll get it at all (Sources: Reddit [1, 2] via Android Authority).

An unheralded discount

And a welcome one, to be sure

The discount appears to be rolling out at random. Some recipients have been with AT&T for years, others just a few months. One Reddit user said they’d only had Fiber for eight months and still got the offer, which will be applied automatically within one to three billing cycles. No promo codes, no haggling with a retention agent, no “please don’t leave us” conversation — just a smaller bill.

If that sounds too good to be true, you’re not alone. Several users reported receiving the same email, and some admitted they initially thought the email was a phishing attempt until confirming with AT&T. The company hasn’t publicly announced the promotion, but multiple reports indicate it’s legit. That also means there’s no official way to check eligibility other than calling in, which may or may not help.

Your loyalty makes our day. We think you deserve a little extra love, so we’re giving you a $20 discount on your existing Fiber bill — every month, for 12 months.

There’s nothing you need to do — no extra purchases, no plan changes and no jumping through hoops. Just sit back, relax, and watch savings kick in within 1-3 bill cycles.

If you have any questions, reach out or head to your local AT&T store. Otherwise, simply enjoy the savings!

Thank you for being a valued customer.

The move comes after a messy few weeks in the broadband and wireless market. Verizon recently scrapped loyalty discounts, tacked on new fees, and axed perks, prompting a wave of customer frustration and defections. In response, rivals like T-Mobile have leaned harder on retention perks, and even Verizon has backpedaled somewhat by expanding limited-time “valued customer” discounts. AT&T, for its part, seems to be getting ahead of the curve by quietly dishing out goodwill discounts to existing Fiber users.

Some customers are stacking this new discount on top of other promos. Others already enjoying deeper cuts, like AT&T’s 25% Fiber discount or special 55+ pricing, don’t appear to have been targeted by the new loyalty perk.

Speed test result with symmetrical speeds

Fiber internet is consistently fast, and symmetrical — that is, it offers the same upload and download speeds.

The exact eligibility criteria remain murky. One former AT&T call center worker on Reddit speculated it’s part of broader billing automation changes aimed at reducing manual credits and shoring up competitiveness against cheaper fiber alternatives.

It’s worth noting this is strictly for subscribers to AT&T Fiber home internet, which it’s been giving lots of love recently. Wireless-only customers don’t seem to be included. And while the communications clearly mention “loyalty,” the bar for qualifying seems pretty low. As long as you’ve been paying on time and haven’t given AT&T a billing headache, you could be on the shortlist.

If you’re on AT&T Fiber, it might be worth checking your inbox or giving customer service a ring. Worst case, you’re out a few minutes of your day. Best case, you just found $240 in your pocket, without even threatening to cancel.
