Life comes with a lot of distractions, but I wouldn’t be alone in saying that the proliferation of smartphones in everyday life has greatly exacerbated the problem with distractions, especially given just how many apps we have notifying us about menial things throughout the day.
iOS’ native Focus feature can help suppress a lot of these distractions, but it doesn’t completely eliminate them. Notifications are delivered quietly, which means your blood pressure rises when you see the red app icon badges piling up in the background, and this can make you more eager to become distracted instead of focusing.
Because of this, iOS developer joshuawhe has released a new jailbreak tweak called TrueFocus that is heavily inspired by the popular PureFocus jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Dave Van Wijk that has since gotten dusty amid the transition to modern rootless jailbreaks.
With TrueFocus, notifications are truly disabled for distracting apps for a user-specified amount of time, including those pesky app icon badges that make you feel like you’re missing everything when they pile up. The tweak can also be used to block certain apps, ensuring that you only access apps that benefit your productivity rather than opening distracting social media apps that do nothing for your productivity.
TrueFocus also hides Notification Center and features a Control Center module that allows for easy toggling on or off. Your total amount of focused minutes are counted and compiled into statistical data for your viewing pleasure.
Once installed, TrueFocus adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a myriad of different options to your liking:
Things you can do here include:
- Configuring how many minutes TrueFocus will be enabled for
- Configuring blocked apps that you won’t be able to access while in TrueFocus mode
- Confirming how many minutes TrueFocus will be enabled for when using the Control Center toggle
- View the total amount of focused minutes
- Enter Focus mode right from Settings
- And more…
Those who feel that distractions from their smartphone are too great to reasonably get anything productive done are advised to give TrueFocus a try. It’s available for $1.49 from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app and supports jailbroken devices on iOS & iPadOS 15, 16, and 17, including the likes of the latest rootless jailbreak tools like Dopamine and palera1n.
