On Wednesday, the Electra Team released an updated version of the iOS 11-centric Electra jailbreak tool. Version 1.2.0 adds official support for iOS 11.4 and 11.4.1, making it the first public jailbreak tool to officially support these firmware versions.
The Electra Team made the announcement via Twitter, noting that Electra 1.2.0 uses a newer exploit dubbed voucher_swap. This exploit is allegedly more reliable than the traditional multi_path or VFS exploits that users have been relying on for months:
The full changelog for this release, as per the official Electra Team website, is as follows:
– Support iOS 11.4 – 11.4.1
– Add async_wake exploit to add support for iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2
– Use voucher_swap exploit instead of empty_list for iOS 11.2 – 11.4.1
– Add threadm1ll exploit as an option for iOS 11.2 – 11.4.1 users on A7 or A8 devices
– Fix overnight reboots
– Reverted app to git commit 9d9762bdf46f19c4082d82798af41ca273fb0e37 before all code was rewritten from there forward
Hacking guru tihmstar released an exploit yesterday especially for iOS 11.4 and 11.4.1 devices, but it required pre-A10 devices to function, which means devices such as the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and all the 2018-esque iPad models woudln’t be supported.
Astonishingly, Electra 1.2.0 supports both A10 and A11 devices, which means there’s some other kind of magic at work here, and it seems to be related to the new exploit being used. According to the changelog, however, users can opt to use tihmstar’s exploit if they’re using an A7 or A8 device.
Notably, Electra Team lead developer CoolStar shared a Tweet shortly after the release of Electra 1.2.0 saying that he had forgotten to put the correct build number in for iOS 11.4-11.4.1:
Users possessing the knowledge to do so can use a hex editor to find “15A372-15E302” and replace it with “15A372-15G770” in the electra1141 binary to fix app crashes on iOS 11.4.x. For those who’d rather wait for an official patch, CoolStar says an update will come in a few more hours.
As for the unc0ver jailbreak tool, Pwn20wnd noted on /r/jailbreak yesterday that he is actively working to add iOS 11.4-11.4.1 support to the jailbreak tool, but this update hasn’t surfaced to the public yet. There’s no ETA at the time of this writing for when this might happen.
If you’re interested in trying the Electra version 1.2.0, then you can download it from the Electra Team’s official website.
A quick word of warning however: the Electra Team says that
you must delete any pending OTA software updates from your device and install
the tvOS beta profile on your handset before proceeding to avoid any possible
errors or problems down the line.
