Customize text strings and more on your jailbroken iPhone’s Lock Screen with Cthulhu

Have you ever wanted to customize the various text strings that can appear on your jailbroken iPhone’s Lock Screen? If so, then a free jailbreak tweak called Cthulhu by iOS developer CydiaGeek could be just right for you.

Once installed, Cthulhu lets you apply custom text strings to different parts of your Lock Screen, such as the top text where internal legal warnings would ordinarily appear on internal test devices, supervisory text at the bottom of the Lock Screen on devices that are being supervised, and custom Lock Screen “swipe to open” text, among other things.

In the screenshot example above, we modified the supervisory text to show that this device is being supervised by neveropen.com, and you can set this text to say anything you might want it to.

The Cthulhu jailbreak tweak adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a number of options to your liking and use the tweak however you see fit:

Among the different things you can configure here are:

  • Enable custom top text
  • Enter a custom top text text string
  • Enable custom bottom text
  • Enter a custom bottom text text string
  • Enable custom Lock Screen unlock text
  • Enter a custom Lock Screen unlock text text string
  • Make the Quick Action buttons transparent
  • Hide the press home/swipe up to unlock text
  • Hide the Home Bar on notched devices
  • Hide the Control Center grabber
  • Show IP address internal text
  • Respring your device to save any changes you’ve made

As you can probably tell, Cthulhu opens the door to interesting ways to pique not only your interest, but the interest of those around you by customizing the Lock Screen — a place that both you and others will see.

Whether you want to warn someone about trying to steal your phone or want to put some other funny joke or quote there, this tweak is certainly capable of it.

If you’re interested in trying Cthulhu, then you can download the tweak for free from the BigBoss repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.

Are you planning to use Cthulhu? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
