Create passcode free intervals with PasswordTime

PasswordTime FeaturedPasswordTime Featured

PasswordTime is a jailbreak tweak that let’s you disable the passcode on your device during specific user defined time intervals. In theory, this could allow you to disable the passcode at 6 PM, the time when you arrive home from work. It could then be set to reenable the passcode before you leave the next day.

It’s not a fail safe method of security, but if you’re looking for something to add a little bit of convenience to your device, while still maintaining a passcode, then PasswordTime is worth your attention.

Once installed, you’ll find a new preference panel in the stock Settings app that’s used to configure the tweak. The preferences contain a kill switch, and two panels to set a start and end time for PasswordTime. The time between these set intervals are when the passcode is disabled.

Perhaps using the term passcode is a bit misleading. Unfortunately, PasswordTime seemed to only work with the standard password interface, although I still had a 4-digit passcode setup to secure my device. For some reason, it won’t allow the easy to input numeric keyboard layout with the tweak installed.

If you’re using a short alphabetic passcode, this is no issue, but if you’re using numbers, it’s a bit annoying to have to deal with the default text input. Hopefully the developer will fix up the issue so that passcode input is still an option.

Outside of that gripe, PasswordTime works pretty much as advertised. Again, it’s not the be all end all of this discussion, but it does make things slightly more convenient.
