CoolStar open-sources libhooker tweak injection method for iOS devices

Libhooker, the tweak injection method frequently used by CoolStar-associated jailbreaks including Odyssey for iOS & iPadOS 13 and Taurine for iOS & iPadOS 14, has been officially open-sourced.

The Odyssey Team made the announcement late Sunday night via Twitter that CoolStar had published the libhooker source code on GitHub and that the Darwin branch for iOS & iPadOS devices would be actively maintained by an anonymous developer.

Despite that fact, CoolStar will continue maintaining the Linux and Windows ARM64 branches going forward, which resonates with CoolStar’s recent decision to leave the jailbreak community and instead focus her energy on alternative non-iPhone-related projects.

Libhooker would have been used as the primary tweak injection method on the now-cancelled Cheyote jailbreak that would have supported iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, but it now remains to be seen if it will be used in the upcoming Fugu15 Max jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1. Currently, developer Lars Fröder is using an alternative tweak injection method.

Now that libhooker is open source, anyone is free to view its source code and see how it works under the hood. The source code can be viewed at the project’s GitHub page.
