CoolStar and tihmstar to give presentation on jailbreaking at TyphoonCon 22

If learning more about jailbreaking interests you, especially the methodology involved in achieving one, then we’ve got some good news for you.

CoolStar, a reverse engineer who is also the lead developer of the Odyssey Team, and tihmstar, a vulnerability researcher in the jailbreak community, appear to be planning a joint presentation at TyphoonCon 22.

For those who’ve never heard of TyphoonCon before, it’s essentially a conference organized by SSD Secure Enclosure that focuses primarily on the likes of technical offensive security issues including vulnerabilities, exploitation, and reverse engineering. It gives security research professionals a way to share their work with other like-minded individuals.

The event is planned to take place in Seoul, South Korea from 8:00 A.M. on Monday, June 20th to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 24th, KST.

The TyphoonCon website goes into more detail about what the two will be discussing in their presentation. From what we can gather, it will involve showcasing some of the work conducted in developing sideloadable jailbreak apps and the challenges we now face with respect to m developing jailbreaks for newer devices running the latest versions of iOS & iPadOS.

The audience can expect to learn more about the basics of iOS & iPadOS security, methods of circumventing those measures to jailbreak the device, and the different types of security mitigations Apple has added into its mobile systems over the years and the code signing bypasses used by jailbreak developers to get around them.

Tickets to the event range from $500 to $3,000, depending on the amenities preferred by the consumer, and are non-refundable. Obviously, these prices aren’t for the faint of heart; the event is intended especially for those who might be serious about learning how jailbreaks are developed from none other than two renowned individuals from the modern community.

Conferences like these happen every now and again, and are sometimes attended by different members of the community. Given CoolStar and tihmstar’s prevalence in the modern community, however, this seems to be a unique opportunity.
