It was only last month that Pwn20wnd released an updated version of the unc0ver jailbreak with official support for iOS 13.0-13.3 on a plethora of different device types. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before CoolStar began hyping Chimera13 – a project that was expected to add similar device and firmware support to the Electra Team’s competing jailbreak solution.
But citing a series of Tweets shared by Electra Team lead developer CoolStar on Tuesday, it seems that Chimera13 won’t be released to the general public after all:
Based on the explanation provided, it seems that most of the Electra Team has jumped ship and joined the checkra1n team instead, resulting in too little manpower to make a public release of the Chimera13 jailbreak a reality.
In addition to a cancelled jailbreak release, it seems that CoolStar has also pulled the plug on plans to release libhooker, a tweak injection alternative to Substitute that allegedly resolved a plethora of stability issues with the latter, along with Anemone for iOS 13.
While the news is indeed unfortunate given all the hyping of Chimera 13 and its associated projects in recent memory, it’s worth noting that those who prefer the Sileo package manager experience over Cydia have been met halfway by the Sileo Team thanks to an official first-party port for checkra1n and unc0ver spearheaded by renowned Sileo porter Diatrus. Thankfully, it is now possible to install Sileo alongside Cydia on these jailbreaks as well.
Whether you were looking forward to Chimera13 or not, avid jailbreakers can still use the tried and true checkra1n or unc0ver jailbreak tools to achieve a pwned state on their iPhone or iPad. With that in mind, the good news is that the decision to halt Chimera13’s development plans doesn’t stifle the community in any way.
