Campy lets you do more from the native Photos app on your iPhone or iPad

The Photos app that comes pre-installed on every iPhone and iPad is a powerful way to view, interact with, and even marginally edit certain images or photographs. Still, it’s lacking what some users might consider important features, and this fact alone has stirred up some interest in the jailbreak community.

Enter Campy, a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer udevs that makes the Photos app considerably more powerful by adding must-have features that Apple seemingly left out when they upgraded the app with the release of iOS & iPadOS 14 this Fall.

Right out of the box, Campy provides users with the following options:

  • Generate animated GIFs from video files in your Photo Library
  • Remove unwanted EXIF data from media in your Photo Library
  • Import photos or videos that have been copied to the Pastebard to your Photo Library
  • And much more…

Once installed, users can tap and hold on the Tab Bar, Tool Bar, or Navigation Bar to reveal the action sheet shown in the screenshot examples above. Notably, certain options may or may not appear depending on what you’re looking at in the Photo Library. For example, only a video file displays the option to convert to an animated GIF.

Campy adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app for users who might want to configure how the tweak works:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle Campy on or off on demand
  • Make individual configurations for the Camera app
  • Make individual configurations for the Photos app
  • Respring your device to save any changes you make

Digging deeper, the Camera and Photos app sections contain the following options:

Camera App

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable posting the last-taken photo or video to the Pasteboard for easy sharing
  • Choose what gets posted to the Pasteboard: Photos, Videos, or Both
  • Toggle Haptic Feedback on or off on demand
  • Hide or show Toast interface
  • Choose what gets EXIF data removed before being posted to the Pasteboard: Disable, Photos, Videos, or Both
  • Configure an expiration time after which the posted media gets removed from the Pasteboard for privacy

Photos App

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable tap and hold on the Navigation Bar, Tab Bar, or Tool Bar to reveal options
  • Enable or disable Haptic Feedback
  • Hide or show Toast interface
  • Enable or disable the Open Settings Action
  • Choose what gets EXIF data removed before being posted to the Pasteboard: Disable, Photos, Videos, or Both
  • Choose a video to GIF quality:
    • Low
    • Medium
    • High
    • 640×480
    • 960×540
    • 1280×720
    • 1920×1080
    • 3840×2160
  • Choose a Live Photo GIF quality:
    • Same options as above
  • Configure an expiration time after which the posted media gets removed from the Pasteboard for privacy

Not only does Campy make it easier to make GIFs and remove otherwise sensitive data from photographs you’ve taken, but it takes the native Photos app a step further without the need to install yet another piece of clutter on your Home Screen.

Those interested in giving Campy a try can download it for free from the udevs repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 13 and 14 devices.

If you’re not already using udevs repository, then you can add it to your package manager of choice with the following URL:
