HomeMobileIOSCalendate replaces the Calendar app icon’s label with the current month

Calendate replaces the Calendar app icon’s label with the current month

Apple designed iOS’ Calendar app to present the current date as a large number on the Home Screen icon itself. I have just one gripe though – most traditional calendars also display the current month somewhere, but Apple’s dynamic Calendar app icon doesn’t seem to follow this tradition.

If you’re interested in aligning your iOS Calendar app icon experience with the traditional paper calendar experience, then you’re certain to appreciate a newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed Calendate by iOS developer ArtikusHG.

As depicted in the before and after screenshot examples above, Calendate replaces the Calendar app icon’s Home Screen label with whatever the current month might be. In this case, it replaces the word “Calendar” with the word “May,” since that’s the current month at the time of this writing. Obviously, it’ll update in real time as the month changes just like the date indicator does.

Calendate also adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app after installation where you can configure a couple of options:

Here, you can:

  • Choose what app(s) display the month as their application icon text
  • Enable localization for some languages that require them

The developer includes a Respring button for saving any changes you make.

Personally, I find this to be a refreshing upgrade from the traditional “Calendar” app icon label because the dynamic date app icon already makes it blatantly obvious that it’s a Calendar application. I suppose the idea of displaying more pertinent information just suits me better, and that’s one reason why I think this tweak is short, sweet, and to the point.

Those interested in trying Calendate can download it for free from ArtikusHG’s repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices.

If you’re not already using ArtikusHG’s repository, then you can add it to your package manager of choice with the following URL:
