BLightAlert leverages your iPhone’s display brightness to get your attention for notifications

iOS’ notification system tends to be subtle enough that it can be easy to forget or miss an incoming notification. Fortunately, a free jailbreak tweak called BLightAlert by iOS developer Julio Verne can help mitigate this problem.

BLightAlert leverages your handset’s display backlight to grab your attention for incoming notifications. Once installed, the display brightness changes rapidly from low to high for a couple of seconds whenever an incoming notification rolls in, like so:

While it might seem intrusive at first glance, you’ll be
happy to know that BLightAlert is fully-customizable. You’ll find a preference
pane in the Settings app where you can adjust brightness thresholds and more:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle the tweak on or off on demand
  • Enable the tweak’s notification effect for all
    apps
  • Configure an app whitelist for the tweak’s
    notification effect
  • Use the rear-firing LED flash in conjunction
    with the display brightness
  • View a preview alert to see what your current
    settings might look like
  • Configure the duration of the notification effect
  • Configure the speed of the notification effect
  • Configure the range of the notification effect
  • Configure the minimum brightness of the
    notification effect
  • Set up an Activator action to use with
    BLightAlert
  • Reset all settings to their defaults

We particularly like that the tweak comes with so many
options to fine-tune the notification effect because not everyone likes to have
an overly-intrusive notification experience. Thanks to the extensive list of
options, you can find a happy medium between intrusiveness and subtlety.

If you frequently miss or forget about notifications and would like to improve their visibility, then you can download BLightAlert for free from Julio Verne’s beta repository in Cydia. The tweak works with all jailbroken iOS 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 devices.

Do you think BLightAlert is too intrusive, or is it a great
way to ensure you never miss a notification again? Let us know in the comments section
below.
