- Lacking an IP water resistance rating
- Battery only lasts about a day
Our previous pick was the Galaxy Watch 7, so it comes as no surprise that Samsung hits the top of the list again with the Galaxy Watch 8. The next iteration of this smartwatch comes with an aesthetic overhaul, opting for a more minimalistic design over the Watch 7. While the new look may not appeal to everyone, it does make the Galaxy Watch 8 a more appealing design, especially for occasions where a sporty smartwatch would look out of place.
But it’s not just looks that the Galaxy Watch 8 receives an upgrade in. Samsung’s health and tracking sensors and apps have always been top-notch, and that continues to be the case with the Galaxy 8. With the latest smartwatch, you also get new features such as an Antioxidant Index and Vascular Load tracker. These may not be features used every day, but they can offer more stats to the data-hungry health nerd. Regardless, the standard health features continue to be fantastic here, and you can be sure it’ll track workouts, sleep, and more without difficulties.
If you already have the Galaxy Watch 7, however, you may want to hold off on upgrading. While the Watch 8 offers some improvements, it may not be easy to justify the upgrade at full price. For anyone else, however, the Watch 8 is a fantastic all-rounder smartwatch option.

- Large and brighter display
- Quick-access button for launching exercise tracking
- Bigger battery
- Not ideal for smaller wrists
- Not good for water sports
The Galaxy Watch Ultra is Samsung’s attempt to build a durable watch to take on the likes of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Garmin’s lineup of rugged wearables. Hence, it only comes in a 47mm size and is the most expensive in Samsung’s lineup. Its toughness comes from the titanium body, sapphire glass, IP68 dust and water resistance, and MIL-STD-810H durability. It can also work in temperatures ranging from 131° Fahrenheit (55° Celsius) to 4° F (–20 Celsius).
It uses Samsung’s excellent tracking capabilities and melds them with physical features like the Quick button. It can launch the exercise tracking by default but can also trigger an alarm and turn on the built-in flashlight, stopwatch, or water-locking feature. There are some caveats to consider. Despite having 10ATM waterproofing, you can only swim with the watch rather than use it for water sports. Smaller wrists will also have a problem, given the Ultra’s size, which explains why only medium/large bands are available.

- Great battery life, up to 4 days with an Always On screen
- IP68 water resistance keeps the watch safe
- Nothing X app has its fair share of issues
- Doesn’t use WearOS
Smartwatches are, without a doubt, expensive. If you’re just getting into them (or simply don’t have the funds to drop hundreds on a wearable), the CMF Watch 3 Pro from Nothing offers a good balance between features and price.
The CMF Watch 3 Pro offers all the sensors and trackers you’ve come to expect, such as sleep monitoring and heart rate tracking. You’ll also get an Active Score so you can keep track of your health from day to day. Finally, AI features make it easy to call someone, get an update on the news, and perform plenty of other functions one-handed.
But when it comes to a budget smartwatch, you’ll need to make some sacrifices. The biggest sacrifice for Nothing’s smartwatch is that it doesn’t use WearOS—the CMF Watch 3 Pro uses an OS that Nothing developed itself. This, on its own, is only a disappointment if you wanted third-party app support, but the problem is that the Nothing X App doesn’t work seamlessly. You’ll need to deal with some hiccups with the OS and app if you decide to pick this smartwatch up, but for the price, it can be worth the small annoyance.

- 45mm version is gorgeous

- Advanced running features are locked behind a subscription tier
The Google Pixel Watch 3 comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes. Google upped the refresh rate from 30Hz to 60Hz, and they peak at 2,000 nits of brightness, making them smooth and easily viewable outdoors, even in direct sunlight. The watch received several notable improvements related to tracking, and the battery can last about a full day on a single charge.
The bezels are smaller than on the Pixel 2 series, and we found that the tracking received a few enhancements, making it more reliable and accurate for everyday health tracking. The third generation is a solid improvement over the previous Pixel Watch 2. If you’re in the market for a reliable smartwatch that works with your Pixel phone, this is the one to consider.
It’s bold, has a bright display, accurate tracking, and two comfortable sizes to fit all wrists. We rated the Pixel Watch 3 a solid 8.5/10 during our review, and we’re happy to report that Google got the right formula that looks beautiful and lasts a full day, even for those who work out a lot.
The newest Google smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 4, will be released in October, which means that the Pixel Watch 3 will surely get some discounts as stores try to clear out stock. However, if you’re in no rush to get a new smartwatch right now, you may want to wait for the Watch 4 and see if the upgrades are worth it to you.

- Incredible five day battery life
- Power saver mode can extend the battery life to over two weeks
- Workout and health trackers work well
- Chunky design may not look or feel great on smaller wrists
- Large size makes it uncomfortable for sleep tracking
For those who need the best battery life for an Android smartwatch, you’ll want the OnePlus Watch 3. This beat of a watch has incredible battery life—up to five days of normal use, and 16 days if you’re using the battery saving mode. Compared to a lot of the other choices featured here, you cannot beat how long OnePlus’s battery will last. You won’t need to worry if you forget to charge your watch every day, that’s for sure!
But, to not mince words, this watch is big. If you want a smartwatch with a big, beautiful screen, then you’re in luck. But, watches like the OnePlus Watch 3 can look comically oversized on smaller wrists, and there are no smaller sizes available (even if they had worse battery life). You’ll need to decide if the size is a dealbreaker compared to how much longer you can go between charges.

- Accurate fitness and GPS tracking
- Rugged design meant to handle the strains of outdoor exploring and adventures
- Zepp OS is a solid alternative to WearOS
- Heavier than the direct competition
- No WearOS compatibility may be a dealbreaker, as it means less overall app compatibility
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is big. It has a chunky watch face and thick bands, and just exudes the aesthetic of ‘big and loud’. So, if you’re looking for a smartwatch that’s more minimalist or may fit into the average office setting better, this is not the smartwatch for you.
But if you want a big, bold smartwatch, whatever the reason, you’ll want the Amazit T-Rex 3. For its budget price, you’ll get a smartwatch with a bright AMOLED screen, all the standard trackers and stats (and then some), and plenty more. The Amazfit app also tracks everything well, and the Readiness score can offer insight on whether you should take it easy today or not.
However, Amazfit watches don’t use WearOS; instead, the company uses Zepp OS. While this doesn’t play a significant role in tracking, it does limit third-party apps. You won’t be able to boot up Spotify, and syncing some of your smartphone’s functions is possible, but it’s not seamless and can have issues. The lack of WearOS may be a dealbreaker depending on how you use your smartwatch, so make sure to decide if Zepp OS does everything you need it to before diving in.

Garmin’s new longest-lasting smartwatch is the Enduro 3, which brings many improvements over its predecessor — and it’s cheaper. The watch supports GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and others. Plus, the Enduro 3 includes plenty of sensors and now uses Garmin’s Elevate Gen5 optical heart rate sensor. But it lacks a few smart features compared to the Fenix 8, like a microphone and speaker, but packs all the same software offerings.

Rugged smartwatches meant for extreme outdoor excursions have been growing in popularity in recent years, so there’s no shortage of them to choose from. Several of our picks already represent that shift, such as the Galaxy Watch Ultra and the Amazfit T-Rex 3. But, if you want the best of the best for rugged adventuring, you’ll want Garmin, and the Euduro 3 is currently the best watch in their lineup.
The Garmin Enduro 3 is, simply put, built for the adventurous. It tracks your location, workouts, and other important statistics, giving you any information you need when you’re off the beaten path. You’ll also get some useful stats with the Body Battery score, which gives you an idea of whether you should take it easy for the day or if you’re ready for the next adventure. The smartwatch even has solar charging abilities, and you can go up to 90 days of charge if you’re using solar charging effectively.
But one thing to note is that you will be paying for this sort of smartwatch. Our review mentions that the Enduro 3 is less expensive than the Garmin Fenix 8 Solar. But, the Enduro 3 is still $900, and that makes this Garmin smartwatch one you’ll want to think about before picking up. However, if the feature set fits your bill, the cost will be worth it.
What’s the best Android watch you can buy?
Two smartwatches sit at the top of the Android lineup: the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 and Watch Ultra. Both are iterative in their own ways, but they integrate cutting-edge software with top-of-the-line hardware when you consider their bright displays, excellent health-tracking features, and app integration.
Do you prefer a unique design? The Google Pixel Watch 3 is a good choice. A sleek design and speedy internals guarantee a slick user experience. Oversized bezels take away some of the immersion when interacting with the screen, but the watch guarantees a clean and updated user experience.Do you prefer long battery life over aesthetics with Wear OS? OnePlus’s Watch 3 has an incredible battery life, with up to 16 days if you use battery saver mode.
The Garmin Enduro 3 trounces most competitors by several days in battery life and offers some of the most comprehensive fitness tracking features. Even though they run on a different OS, you’ll have a hard time finding another watch that can go for over a week before it needs a recharge.
You could also save some cash by going for the CMF Watch Pro 3. It offers solid features at a fraction of the price of others on this list.
