While there hasn’t been any word of a modern iOS or iPadOS jailbreak lately, there’s been a lot of movement in jailbreak development for older legacy firmware versions as of late. The latest to join the fray is a new tool called Aquila by iOS developer staturnz, which targets all devices that can run iOS 6.
Aquila is an untethered jailbreak that is available for both macOS and Windows computers. It isn’t a point-and-click jailbreak tool, rather it runs in a Terminal window much like the palera1n jailbreak does, so you will need to follow the text prompts in the Terminal window to know when to connect your device and what to do next.
Citing frequent jailbreak commentator mastermike88, the Aquila jailbreak utilizes a brand-new iOS 6 kernel exploit developed by staturnz known as bad_queue. While there are other jailbreaks already available for iOS 6, bad_queue is said to be faster and more reliable than those used in other jailbreaks.
Aquila joins a few other jailbreak tools that have long been available for iOS 6 devices, including evasi0n and p0sixspwn.
While few if any people are still running iOS 6, this jailbreak goes out to hobbyists who still have older devices laying around, either for sentimental value or for tinkering. I personally do not have an iOS 6 device to test this jailbreak on, so while I can report that it exists, I cannot verify that it’s faster or better than existing jailbreaks.
If you’re interested in giving the Aquila jailbreak a try on any iOS 6 devices that you may have available to your hacking desires, then you can head over to the Aquila GitHub page to download the correct version of the tool for your machine.
