AppSync-based ‘TrollStore Lite’ teased for jailbroken devices

Lars Fröder (@opa334dev), the mastermind behind the Dopamine jailbreak and the TrollStore perma-signing utility that many of us have come to use on a regular basis, shared a teaser last night of what appears to be a “Lite” version of TrollStore.

If you’ve been following Fröder for more than a year, then you may recall when he suggested such an idea in January of last year. As a busy man, Fröder never got the opportunity to work on a ‘TrollStore Lite’ until only recently.

“Better late than never,” he said, sharing the teaser screenshot you see above.

What is TrollStore Lite, and why might someone want to use it when they already have TrollStore at their disposal? We’re so glad you asked…

According to Fröder, TrollStore installs and registers all perma-signed apps as system, which can have downsides in certain cases.

TrollStore Lite is intended for jailbroken devices and only works when the device is in an jailbroken state. It installs and registers perma-signed apps as user if AppSync is installed, but if it isn’t, it continues to install and register apps as System just as the normal TrollStore would.

With that in mind, AppSync isn’t a hard dependency, but if you have it, that’s where the benefits of TrollStore Lite really shine.

Fröder says that this would work similarly to installing .ipa files through Filza and that it circumvents the downsides of installing and registering apps as system. TrollStore Lite would simply be a fancy graphical user interface (GUI) for doing this.

While you could still use the regular TrollStore to install and perma-sign your jailbreak, you could then use TrollStore Lite to install and perma-sign your other, less-important apps via AppSync without the downsides of registering those apps as system.

TrollStore Lite is by no means ready for the general public yet, and will continue to monitor the TrollStore Lite project as Fröder continues work on it.

Stay tuned!
