Less than a week after releasing the first beta of Android 16 QPR3, Google has rolled out a minor Beta 1.1 build. It addresses a bug that caused some apps to crash during launch, frustrating users on the beta channel to no end.
Android 16 QPR3 Beta 1.1 is available for all Pixel devices eligible for the Android Beta Program, starting from the Pixel 6 to all the way to the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. For all devices except the Pixel 7a, the latest QPR3 beta carries the build number CP11.251114.007, while the Pixel 7a receives a separate build labeled CP11.251114.004.A2.
Soon after installing Android 16 QPR3 Beta 1, many Pixel users began reporting startup crashes across several apps, including Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and multiple banking apps.
Given the inconvenience this causes, Google has pushed Beta 1.1 right before the year ends to resolve the issue.
Below is the relatively short release note of the update:
It includes fixes to the following issue:
- Some apps crash on startup. (Issue #470144317, Issue #470214834)
On Pixel 10 Pro XL, the OTA is a relatively small download, coming in at 59.46MB. The update size is similarly small on other compatible Pixels.
If you are a part of the beta program, the OTA should already show up for download on your phone. If not, you can grab the OTA or factory image and manually sideload it as well.
Based on Reddit reports, it appears the beta fixes the app crash issue with banking apps. However, Microsoft apps like Teams, Outlook, and Edge are still crashing on launch. Clearing the system and app cache does not help things either. Some banking apps also continue to crash, but the majority now seem to work.
Don’t exit the Android Beta Program after installing QPR 3 Beta 1.1
If you plan to exit the Android Beta Program sometime soon, Google advises against installing Android 16 QPR3 Beta 1.1. It notes that some users might run into data corruption issues when doing so.
To avoid this issue, it’s best to either skip installing QPR3 Beta 1.1 altogether or wait for QPR3 Beta 2 before exiting the program.
