Amazon’s 10th annual Prime Day shopping event is on the horizon, set to take place on July 16th and 17th, and we are expecting the anniversary celebration to feature notable discounts across all of our favorite categories including phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and smart home devices.
The smart home space is particularly interesting, given how heavily Amazon has invested in it, across multiple brands. So, if you want to shore up your home’s security with a new smart doorbell or camera, or if you just want to make life a little easier with remotely controlled lights and appliances, Prime Day should offer some big discounts.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is a yearly online sales event typically held in the summer. It’s comparable to Black Friday, but takes place in July, with thousands of products offered at discounted prices on Amazon.com.
When is Prime Day?
This year, Amazon Prime Day will take place on July 16th and 17th. While most deals are available during these 48 hours, discounts usually start appearing weeks in advance, so it’s wise to keep an eye out for early offers.
Do you need to be a Prime member to save on Amazon Prime Day?
Yes, being an Amazon Prime member is essential to access the full range of benefits during Amazon Prime Day. While you might come across a handful of non-Prime-exclusive offers, most of the significant savings are reserved for members. This exclusivity is especially true for the coveted discounts featured in flash sales and invitation-only deals. If you’re not currently a member, that’s perfectly fine. We’ve listed some options for you below that include a free 30-day trial!
Amazon Prime
If you want in on the exclusive Amazon Prime Day deals, and you don’t already have a membership, you have a few options. You can opt for a 30-day free trial, pay for a 1-month plan for $15, or do the full year for $140. Note that membership includes access to exclusive deals, free 2-day shipping, the Prime Video streaming service, and more.
What to expect from Prime Day smart home deals
Everyone knows that Amazon loves to discount its own products during these sales events, and wouldn’t you know it, the company makes a ton of smart home gear. Not only does it have its own product lines like Echo and Fire TV, but it also owns major brands like Ring and Blink. With this in mind, we expect these products to receive the more notable price-drops, but we also wouldn’t be surprised if other brands followed suit. In the past, we have seen some solid deals on Google Nest devices, as well as Hue light bulbs, and more.

Best Prime Day smart speaker and display deals
For smart speakers, we really like the Echo Pop‘s tuck-away size and price tag. It won’t wow you with sound, but it does all things-Alexa, and we’re hoping to see it drop below $25. Honestly, most Echo smart speakers offer good value when given decent discounts. As for smart displays, we really like the Echo Show 8 (3rd gen), and would like to see it drop below $100, but in terms of bang-for-your-buck, keep an eye on the Google Nest Hub. It often falls into the hard-to-resist $60 range.

Home security deals
We are going to be looking for big discounts on Ring products this Prime Day, and not just the doorbells. The company also makes smart security cameras and outdoor floodlights, and they obviously all play very well together. On the Google side of things, we really like the Nest Cam and their video doorbell, and we are hoping they follow suit with some major deals. Keep in mind, smart home security products also include things like door locks, so we will be keeping an eye out for stuff like that, as well.

Smart light, plug, and switch deals
As for smart light deals on Prime Day, we are obviously going to focus on Philips Hue products. We are big fans of several of the company’s lines, though it’s worth keeping in mind that they are pricey, and rarely see significant discounts. That being said, we hope to see at least 20% off some of the three bulb starter kits, as well as accessories like the Bridge and Light Bar. If you’re looking for cheaper options, we are expecting to see price drops on less expensive brands like Govee, Sengled, and Wyze.

Robot vacuum deals
A smart robot vacuum can vacuum your home on its own, empty itself, charge itself, and some models will even mop your floors. These things have come a long way from the not very powerful models with far too small bins and high price tags of years past. We really like a lot of the Roborock products, but regardless of what your needs and price range are, chances are there will be some solid Prime Day deals for you in this space.
Smart TV deals
Obviously, with Amazon’s massively popular Fire TV sticks, we are expecting to see some hot deals on streaming devices this Prime Day. But we’re also hoping to see some nice discounts on full-blown smart television sets as well. We will be particularly looking for price drops on Samsung’s The Frame line, Amazon’s Fire TV Omni QLED series, as well as Fire TV-infused offerings from brands like TCL and Hisense.
