Have you ever wanted to do something completely extraordinary with your wallpaper images that Apple hasn’t already thought of yet? If so, then you might take interest in a newly released jailbreak tweak called Afsoon by iOS developer Mysteryexe.
Afsoon is a kaleidoscope generator that makes kaleidoscope-based wallpaper images for your iPhone or iPad based on images found in your Photo Library. Users can pick the images they want to use for this effect and then customize the kaleidoscope experience via a plethora of options that are configurable via the tweak’s preference pane in the Settings app post-installation.
Among some of the top features of Afsoon include:
– Support for custom images – use virtually any major image file format, including GIFs (only the first frame is used) to generate kaleidoscope effects
– 14 easing modes – choose from 14 different easing modes for smooth and varied animation interpolation
– Customizable reflections – select the number of reflections (slices) with options for 6, 8, 10, or 12
– Animation options – support for infinite and timed animations, includes outline feature for reflections (slices) with custom color options, enable additional rotating animations, easily change the animation direction
Once installed, users will find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where they can configure the tweak to their liking:

The developer notes that while Afsoon brings artistic animations to iPhones and iPads with stunning kaleidoscope patterns, using the infinite animation mode from the preferences above can reduce battery by anywhere from 200-500mAh, depending on device. That said, infinite animation mode probably isn’t recommended if you’re battery conscious. Other animation modes won’t consume as much battery.
Afsoon is DRM protected, as a means of anti-piracy, but it’s not a constant DRM protection. Instead, users will only be prompted after respringing their device to check for license verification. Upon verification, the tweak will work as expected.
Personally, I think Afsoon is an interesting jailbreak tweak concept that helps make your iPhone or iPad stand out from the ordinary wallpaper users out there. It may just be enough to get people interested in jailbreaking by asking how you were able to do such a thing on your device.
