One UI 8 is to be the next evolution in Samsung’s mobile operating system, and it’s on the way, with betas available on a number of Samsung’s newer smartphones. However, a bunch of Samsung’s older phones are set to get the beta very soon, according to one leaker (via Phone Arena).

The Samsung Galaxy S24 and S23 ranges are set to get the One UI 8 beta as soon as next week, according to leaker Tarun Vats, giving people running slightly older flagship hardware a chance to try out Samsung’s latest software.

Jumping on software betas may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s the best way to get a glimpse into the future. One UI 8 is set to add a number of new features to Samsung’s phones, including a revamped Now Bar, new battery protection tools, and Dynamic Wallpapers. The catch? The beta has only been available on a select few devices up to now. Well, that list is about to get a lot more accommodating, as Samsung is expanding availability to a bunch of other devices.

We already knew Samsung was planning on opening the One UI 8 beta to other devices, but we didn’t know when — until now.

According to leaker Tarun Vats on X, we can expect to see the One UI 8 beta land on Galaxy S24 series devices from August 13, while Galaxy S23 devices will have to wait until September 8. These claims are all subject to a one-to-two day leeway either way, which is an entirely fair caveat to include given how software launches tend to go.

Most of this is within our expectations from Samsung’s statement earlier this week — however, it’s worth pointing out that the September rollout for the Galaxy S23 line is startlingly close to Samsung’s release date for One UI 8 itself. That probably means Galaxy S23 owners will be waiting a while to get their final updates to One UI 8. But that’s almost always been the case with Samsung’s updates, and nothing new.

It’s also worth mentioning that none of the other devices announced for the beta were included in this leak, but it’s safe to assume most of those devices will receive the beta on and around those dates.

Jumping on a beta can be fun, but keep in mind that any beta, no matter how close to the end, carries risks. The chances of bricking your device are small, but they are there, so keep that in mind before you choose to download a beta. Also, make sure to back up your device before you commit to the beta, in case of data loss.

If you’re not willing to put your device at (admittedly, small) risk in order to get a look at the next generation of Samsung’s mobile operating system, then don’t despair, as we’ll be sure to bring you the latest additions and news from everything One UI 8.

The smallest of Samsung’s 2024 flagships packs possibly the most significant upgrades of the series, with a significantly brighter and 1-120Hz adaptable refresh rate screen, cameras that finally match the S24+, and an even more polished build than the last two years.
