Despite Samsung, Google, and other brands churning out new smartwatches every year, there’s very little that’s changed over the past few years. We can probably even say that smartwatches have pretty much hit their peak. This naturally prompts the question: where do we go from here?
Well, reviving old products has always been a surefire way to drum up some excitement. And we’re seeing plenty of that this year. So far we’ve seen a campaign to revive BlackBerry, and perhaps even more interesting, the revival of Pebble. This was all made possible thanks to Google’s release of the Pebble source code, allowing Eric Migicovsky, the original creator of Pebble, to make something new.
The Pebble Time 2 looks way better now
While we got a good glimpse of what to expect back in March, with the announcement of the Pebble Time Duo and Pebble Time 2, it appears that we’re now getting a pleasant surprise, with the Pebble Time 2 getting a newly revamped design ahead of its release. The news was announced through Eric Migicovsky’s blog, sharing details about the new design, hardware details, and more.
As you can see from the images and video, the design of the Pebble Time 2 has changed quite a bit, looking much sleeker than its original launch. As of now, it looks like Migicovsky is looking to offer four different colors of the Pebble Time 2. When it comes to the materials, you’re looking at stainless steel for the front, back panels, and buttons.
It’s also going to come with an RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for potential noise cancellation, compass, and screw-mounted back cover. This is in addition to the color e-paper touchscreen display, heart rate monitor, step tracker, and 30-day battery life. Naturally, it’s going to be the software that really matters here, and there’s high hopes that the Pebble community will deliver.
Now, if this change has you drooling, and you’re ready to preorder, you can head to the Pebble website to get your order in now. The device is set to arrive in December 2025 and costs $225. For those that have already preordered the Pebble 2 Duo, and are looking to make a change, that’s also possible as well. Pebble will send out a survey allowing you to make this change in the next month or two, so be patient.
The Pebble smartwatches are either going to be an exciting addition to the smartwatch space, pure nostalgia, or a mix of both. Of course, there’s always the chance that they could be a disappointment as well. But we think that a lot of people are looking for something different, and the Pebble smartwatches just might be it.
