MoviePy – Changing Time Line of Video Clip

In this article we will see how we can change time line of the video file clip in MoviePy. MoviePy is a Python module for video editing, which can be used for basic operations on videos and GIF’s. In video editing, timeline is a commonly used interface found in most video editing programs. This interface enables authors to lay a video project out in a linear fashion horizontally across a monitor. A chronological display of an edited sequence in a non-linear editing system. By changing timeline of the video we can change the sequence of events in the video.

In order to do this we will use fl_time method with the VideoFileClip object Syntax : clip.fl_time(method) Argument : It takes time method as argument Return : It returns VideoFileClip object

Below is the implementation

Python3

# Import everything needed to edit video clips
from moviepy.editor import * import math

# loading video dsa gfg intro video
clip = VideoFileClip("dsa_geek.webm")

# getting only first 5 seconds
clip = clip.subclip(0, 5)

# applying color effect
final = clip.fl_time(lambda t: math.sin(t))

# setting duration
final.duration = 9

# showing final clip
final.ipython_display()

Output :

Moviepy - Building video __temp__.mp4.
Moviepy - Writing video __temp__.mp4

Moviepy - Done !
Moviepy - video ready __temp__.mp4

Another example

Python3

# Import everything needed to edit video clips
from moviepy.editor import *

# loading video gfg
clip = VideoFileClip("neveropen.mp4")

# getting subclip from it
clip = clip.subclip(0, 5)

# altering time interval effect
final = clip.fl_time(lambda t: 2 * t)

# setting duration
final.duration = 10

# showing final clip
final.ipython_display()

Output :

Moviepy - Building video __temp__.mp4.
MoviePy - Writing audio in __temp__TEMP_MPY_wvf_snd.mp3

MoviePy - Done.
Moviepy - Writing video __temp__.mp4

Moviepy - Done !
Moviepy - video ready __temp__.mp4
