Jailbreakers are always looking for ways to make their handsets stand out from the rest of the crowd, and one great way to do that is with a jailbreak tweak called ColorBadges by iOS developer David Goldman.
Just as the name implies, ColorBadges gives your Home screen’s app icon notification badges a fresh coat of paint. More specifically, it colorizes those badges based on the dominant color of the app icon itself.
ColorBadges is
far from a new tweak, but it’s worth mentioning that it was recently re-released
in Cydia’s Packix repository with full-fledged support for the latest
jailbreaks on iOS 11 and iOS 12.
Whether you’re rocking the stock Home screen or you have
themes installed, ColorBadges can give your handset a unique look and feel:
After you’ve installed ColorBadges, you’ll find a dedicated
preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your
liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle the tweak on or off on demand
- Toggle Apex/Zenith folder support
- Toggle badge borders on or off
- Use legacy borders instead
- Always display white text and borders regardless
of color
A respring button is included at the top of the preference
pane, and you’ll need to use it after making changes to the Settings to ensure
they’re saved and that they take effect.
Apart from being one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks, I’ll also add that it’s easy to see the visual appeal behind ColorBadges.
