Lots of people pack their iOS handsets’ Calendar app with upcoming plans and events, and we find it particularly alarming that Apple still doesn’t persistently display those plans and events on the Lock screen to prevent users from forgetting about them as the week goes on.
Given the circumstances, we’re particularly excited to show you a newly-released and free jailbreak tweak called Shenmue by iOS developer maximehip, which resolves the aforementioned problem by displaying a specialized event widget on the Lock screen with a persistent reminder regarding what’s still to come.
As you’ll see in the screenshot example above, the dedicated events widget looks very Apple-esque and even contains the native Calendar app icon in the header for added legitimacy. As a bonus, the tweak ensures that you won’t forget any of your upcoming events by giving the event widget a high priority – even over that of iOS’ native Do Not Disturb banner.
As you might come to expect, Shenmue is fully customizable. Once installed, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle Shenmue on or off on demand
- Adjust the event widget’s corner radius
- Toggle dark mode on or off on demand
- Manually configure the widget’s date formatting
- Hide the widget from your Lock screen when you have no upcoming widgets
- Make the background of the widget clear
- Choose how many days in advance that the widget will remind you of the forthcoming events
The developer provides a Respring button at the bottom of the preference pane so you can save any changes you make while tinkering with the settings.
We particularly like how Shenmue gives the event widget a high priority, and we also appreciate that you can adjust how far in advance that the widget persists on the Lock screen. With Shenmue, you’ll have no excuse for forgetting imperative plans or events ever again, because it displays them right on the Lock screen you interact with many times every day.
If you’re interested in trying Shenmue, then you can download it for free from the BigBoss repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 12 devices, but unfortunately won’t install on iOS 11 devices.
What are your thoughts regarding Shenmue? Do you think Apple should implement something like this out of the box? Discuss in the comments section below.
