The battery level indicator is perhaps one of the most important items in your iPhone’s Status Bar. Not only does it tell you how far along your handset’s battery percentage is, but it also gives you a rough idea of about how much longer you can expect to use your device before it’s time to plug it in to a power source.
There’s nothing particularly wrong with iOS’ native battery level indicator, but starting with Apple’s trendy notched handsets, the icon itself doesn’t display a numeric battery percentage anymore. Fortunately for those looking to change that, you can now download a new, free jailbreak tweak called half by iOS developers Soongyu Kwon and Ayden Leppert.
As depicted in the screenshot examples above, half gives your notched iPhone a much nicer battery level indicator icon that physically displays the numeric remainder in the icon itself. The icon appears white in most cases, but turns green when your handset is charging and turns yellow when your handset is put into Low Power Mode.
While half was created with notched handsets in mind, the developer notes that it should work with all iPads and all non-notched handsets that have the LittleX tweak installed. That said, more users will be able to take advantage of half than initially meets the eye.
My favorite part about half is being able to see a numeric battery percentage in my iPhone X’s Status Bar, which is something Apple clearly dropped the ball on. But I also sort of like the new battery icon design, which is slightly different than what Apple gives you out of the box.
If you’re interested in trying half, then you can download it for free from the Packix repository in your preferred package manager. The tweak doesn’t have any options to configure and it supports jailbroken iOS 11, 12, and 13 devices.
