Sileo Team launches Diatrus’ Cydia fork, permitting Cydia & Sileo on the same device

If you’re using the checkra1n jailbreak and you’ve been on the fence about using the Sileo Team’s brand-new installer to get Sileo on your iPhone or iPad because of its conflicts with the pre-installed Cydia package manager, then we’ve got good news for you!

With the help of prominent Sileo porter Diatrus, the Sileo Team has officially launched a new Cydia fork on its GetSileo repository that will allow checkra1n devices to run both Cydia and Sileo side-by-side on the same device using the same version of APT.

Diatrus first shared the intentions of making this a reality Friday afternoon. As of Saturday morning, this is the first time that checkra1n jailbreak users can get their hands on an officially supported means of having both Cydia and Sileo side-by-side on the same checkra1n device. Before today, installing Sileo would forcefully uninstall Cydia and its dependencies.

The repository to get the new Cydia Installer is as follows:

If you’ve used the third-party Diatrus installer ahead of today’s release, then you should know that it is now a deprecated means of installing Cydia and Sileo side-by-side on your device and that it will no longer be supported as of Diatrus’ newfangled affiliation with the Sileo Team. Those wanting an officially-supported solution should use the installer methods being hosted the Sileo Team’s official repository instead.

From what we can gather, the new Cydia fork works exactly like the original Cydia installation did, however you may experience some errors when refreshing sources (especially with the default Bingner repository). Diatrus says that this is expected behavior as of now and that he plans to resolve these errors in the future. On the other hand, he hasn’t provided an ETA.

It’s worth noting that this installer is currently only for the checkra1n jailbreak, but a version could be released for the unc0ver jailbreak in the future. Diatrus hasn’t offered any guarantees for the latter, but it’s still a step in the right direction for those who prefer choices.

In what can only be described as a substantial step forward on the Sileo Team’s part, it seems that jailbreakers may finally be able to have their cake and eat it too. It should be interesting to see how this project develops and how the community takes to it.

Will you be installing Sileo on your checkra1n jailbreak now that you can also install Cydia alongside it? Share in the comments section below.
