The iPhone’s Status Bar has always been used as something of an always-visible information display for pertinent information. But while that may be true, one thing it seems to be missing is a weather display of some kind.
A multitude of jailbreak tweaks have brought weather displays to the Status Bar over the years, but a newly released add-on dubbed Status Weather by iOS developer Jax Roth is the latest of such attempts to offer a pleasant solution for pwned handset users.
In the screenshot example above, you’ll see that Status Weather replaces the Status Bar’s carrier text with a real-time weather display. The format is totally customizable, but in this example, you’ll see that it has been configured to display the temperature and an icon matching the weather conditions outside.
Once installed, users will find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where they can configure Status Weather to their liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle Status Weather on or off on demand
- Adjust the refresh rate (in minutes)
- Choose a preferred format style
- Icon only
- Temperature only
- Conditions only
- Temperature and icon
- Icon and temperature
- Temperature and conditions
- Conditions and temperature
- Temperature, then conditions, then icon
- Temperature, then icon, then conditions
- Conditions, then icon, then temperature
- Icon, then conditions, then temperature
As you can see, the options are fairly simple and it doesn’t take much setup to get the tweak working. Once installed, there are really only two options you need to configure, including the format you want and the refresh interval you desire. Keep in mind, however, that a more frequent refresh interval may have a larger impact on battery life.
Those interested in trying Status Weather can download the tweak for free from the Havoc repository via their preferred package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 12, 13, and 14 devices.
