As you use Notification Center to peruse your missed notifications, there might come a time when you need to clear some out of your way. This is why Apple provides the “X” button for clearing certain notifications; but what if the clear button served an even more utilitarian purpose than it already does?
Say hello to a brand new and free jailbreak tweak dubbed Numberfications by iOS developer EthanRDoesMC. This tweak effectively replaces the useless “X” in Notification Center’s individual clear buttons with a number to designate just how many notifications are nestled within that particular group.
The screenshot examples above do a particularly good job of depicting how Numberfications works. As you’ll notice, the number appears right where it needs to be in both Notification Center and on the Lock Screen, helping the end user discern how many missed notifications they have at a glance before clearing them.
Additionally, Numberfications doesn’t change how the clear button works, so tapping on the button with the number in it behaves exactly as it would if it showed the “X” instead.
Once installed, users will find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where they can configure a few options to their liking:
Here, you can:
- Toggle Numberfications on or off on demand
- Choose between using the glyph size or button font for number sizing
- Toggle haptic feedback on or off for clearing notifications
- Respring your device to save changes
Numberfications is a simple, yet effective way to upgrade your pwned iPhone or iPad’s Notification Center-centric clear notifications button. Those interested in trying the tweak can download it for free from the Dynastic Repo repository via their favorite package manager. Numberfications supports jailbroken iOS 13 devices.
