TrollCuts project leverages TrollStore’s CoreTrust bug to expand capabilities of the Shortcuts app

In the background of everything that’s been happening in the iPhone & iPad hacking communities recently, iOS developer udevsharold was working on a project they call TrollCuts, and from what we can gather, it just might be worth checking out if you use TrollStore on iOS or iPadOS 16 or later.

The developer first shared news of their project via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), which linked to a GitHub page where users will find a .tipa file for TrollCuts that they can download and install via TrollStore in just a few taps.

As noted on the GitHub page’s description, TrollCuts offers extensions for iOS & iPadOS’ native Shortcuts app that leverage the TrollStore CoreTrust bug’s arbitrary entitlements to make it possible for sandboxed apps to do things that they shouldn’t be able to do.

Right out of the box, TrollCuts comes with a few basic extensions such as:

  • Locking the device
  • Rebooting the device
  • Respringing the device
  • Performing a Userspace Reboot
  • Switching apps registration (TrollStore)
  • Performing an iCloud Backup
  • Managing auto-lock
  • Managing auto-brightness

According to the developer, TrollCuts is capable of so much more, but they didn’t include more because they dislike coding in Swift. These basic actions serve as a proof of concept so that other developers can learn and create their own Shortcuts extensions that can run on a compatible device.

The developer also says that their motivation behind making TrollCuts was to have a quick way of switching the TrollStore installed apps registration state so that iCloud Backup would be more friendly with those apps.

TrollCuts appears to be a unique new way of leveraging TrollStore on the iPhone and iPad platforms, and since it gives more usefulness to the native Shortcuts app, I’m certain that those who love making and using Shortcuts will find value in its existence.

If you’re interested in giving the new TrollCuts project a try, then you can head over to the GitHub page and download the latest .tipa file to perma-sign on your device with TrollStore. Please note that it requires iOS or iPadOS 16 or later. If you try to install it on an iOS or iPadOS 15 device, it will simply crash (we tried).

Are you excited about the Shortcuts-centric possibilities that TrollCuts unlocks? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
