XREAL took the stage today to announce that its new AURA smart glasses will be on sale at a limited launch price of $1099. To be quite honest, that price is quite steep, but technology like this isn’t made with all consumers in mind. This is for the early adopters who want to see Android XR in motion on a new type of device. You can get them directly from XREAL or through Best Buy.
Things are starting to move
Despite Android XR making its grand debut a year ago, we haven’t really seen many products out in the wild. Perhaps the best-known example is the Samsung Galaxy XR, which pretty much came and went without anyone really taking notice.
Naturally, a new platform takes time to mature, and we’re not expecting anything revolutionary out of the gate, but the product output has been underwhelming. Luckily, XREAL is now making its AURA smart glasses available for purchase.
The only downside is that these things cost a pretty penny. The AURA starts at $1,279 for the base model that has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s also a model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $1,499.
The good news is that XREAL is providing a fairly substantial discount, taking $180 off the base model and $200 off the top-end variant. We know that’s still pretty expensive, but it’s better than paying full price.
We’ve tried these and can easily recommend them
Smart glasses are a great option if you want content in front of you but don’t want to be completely enveloped by it. They’re light, easy to carry around, and extremely powerful.
The XREAL AURA comes in two parts: the glasses with the displays and a puck that houses the computing hardware and battery. The glasses have built-in speakers and touch controls on the arms.
This design keeps them light and comfortable. The last thing you want is a heavy piece of hardware on your face. Some people can be quite sensitive to this, causing headaches in just a short time.
The puck also offers touch controls, which can be handy if you don’t want to move your hands up to your temples to make adjustments. Since this device runs Android XR, you get an experience that feels different but also familiar.
Plus, you get access to Gemini, which can make interactions feel much more seamless. Of course, it really depends on how you choose to use this device. It won’t be for everyone, but it’s an exciting device nonetheless.
If this seems like something you’re interested in, we recommend picking up a pair right now while they’re on sale. The discounted price is well worth taking advantage of.
