The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will finally be coming in a variant that’s a bit more, well, colorful. The long-awaited Fig colorway is set to finally hit Amazon’s virtual shelves on January 28th, according to sources who spoke to Good E-reader.

This release will finally draw a line under a lengthy and protracted release for the Scribe Colorsoft devices, which were announced all the way back in September 2025, with a partial release in December 2025.

A bold new color for your Colorsoft

This Fig colorway should satisfy anyone who wanted a much bolder approach to their Kindle Scribe. It’s only the second colorway available for Amazon’s new device, the other being the rather boring Graphite, which is… well, it’s gray.

Fig, on the other hand, is a rather deep and rich red. It’s modeled after the interior of a fig, which is a similarly deep red color — though we wouldn’t have blamed Amazon if it had named this shade “Merlot” or “Wine Red” instead. Perhaps such an overt reference to alcohol was a bad idea for a productivity device. Fridays are hard enough without your device reminding you of your after-work tipple.

None of this changes the interior workings of the device, it’s just a color change. However, it’s always nice to see a device come in something other than the standard (and boring) gray or black. Heck, even white is starting to be a rarity these days, and so, it’s nice to see a device like the Scribe come in such a bold color.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft might share a lot with its e-reader cousins, but it’s not meant for just reading books and magazines. Instead, it’s a full-on productivity device, complete with a stylus and the ability to make extensive changes to documents, and even scrawl over the top of them.

The original Kindle Scribe was a competent note-taker, and the Scribe Colorsoft adds to this with a color screen, aping the smaller Kindle Colorsoft.

The Fig Kindle Scribe Colorsoft won’t be the last you’ll hear of this Scribe line releasing, though. The cheapest option in Amazon’s new range, the Scribe without a front-light, is still missing in action, with the store page only listing “Coming soon!”
