The OnePlus Open was one of 2023’s and 2024’s best foldable phones, and it became a firm favorite of those who had the chance to test it out. As you might imagine, this meant rumors of the OnePlus Open 2 were received gleefully, and it was a huge disappointment when it emerged OnePlus would not be releasing the Open 2 in 2025.
Many hoped that left the field open for 2026 — but that may not be the case. According to one leaker, OnePlus is dropping the Open 2 entirely, and could even be killing off the OnePlus 15s as well (via Android Authority).
A terrible day for OnePlus fans
The news comes from X leaker Yogesh Brar, who outright states the OnePlus Open 2 is being canceled by OnePlus. As mentioned earlier, this comes after the Open 2 was ruled out of 2025, and many fans were hoping to see a new OnePlus foldable phone hitting this year. Alas, that seems to not be the case.
In a reply to a follower, Yogesh also claims that the OnePlus 15s, which would be a smaller version of the blockbusting OnePlus 15, has a “90% chance” of being canceled too.
It’s a double-whammy of terrible news for OnePlus fans, as not only were they hoping for a new big foldable, but small phone fans had also grown used to having the powerful s-model of the latest OnePlus flagship as an option.
Yogesh then posted another tweet showing exactly what OnePlus fans would be missing out on if the Open 2 is canceled, as he claims. Talk about rubbing their noses in it.
As highlighted, the Open 2 would have largely been a rebadged version of the Oppo Find N6, so really, it’s surprising that OnePlus has canceled the phone at all. After all, most of the hard work has already surely been done. While we have no evidence this is the case, delayed and canceled products like this may mean OnePlus is not in a good place right now.
Hopefully that isn’t the case, and fingers crossed it’s simply OnePlus sweeping the field clean in order to build anew.
With the Moto Razr Fold on the way, there are still plenty of foldable phones to pick from, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold — but it’s still sad to be down one potentially great option.
