It’s not uncommon for beta software to miss some functionality or break existing ones. Something similar happened with the latest One UI 8.5 beta release (or so we thought), as the Dual Recording and Single Take camera modes were missing from the stock Camera app. As it turns out, these omissions weren’t a bug, but rather an intentional move by Samsung.
A screenshot of an interaction between a Samsung Community moderator and a user was shared by Samsung news leaker Tarun Vats. Per the moderator, who is purportedly from Samsung’s camera team, Single Take and Dual Recording will return with the second One UI 8.5 beta, but not in the Camera app itself.
Instead, these two modes will live inside Camera Assistant, which was released as a Good Lock module over three years ago.
To be clear, these camera modes are only missing from the first One UI 8.5 beta, so the functioning of Dual Recording and Single Take should remain unaffected if you’re still on the stable One UI 8 release. However, expect them to be moved to Camera Assistant with the stable release of One UI 8.5.
‘New features’ are expected to land with the second beta
Apart from confirming that the camera modes will return to One UI 8.5 in the second beta, the moderator said it will also bring “new features such as Custom options for professional shooting.” While this doesn’t say much, SamMobile speculates that it could be a reference to the shareable Pro mode presets uncovered in October.
It’s unclear from the moderator’s words whether these custom options will appear in Camera Assistant or in the Camera app itself, though it’s likely to be the latter. Hopefully, we don’t have to wait long to find out, as the second One UI 8.5 beta is expected to land by December 22, according to recent rumors.
Samsung could face some pushback for moving these camera modes to Camera Assistant, since it’s a supplementary app for Galaxy devices and doesn’t come bundled with its phones (though that may change with One UI 8.5). There’s also a chance that Samsung will nudge users to try out Camera Assistant on their Galaxy devices to make the shift more seamless.
