After a lengthy wait, Amazon has finally made its newest Kindle Scribe models available for purchase. Originally announced at the end of September, Amazon delayed the launch of its biggest Kindles for unknown reasons.
But the wait is at an end. From today, December 10, fans and avid note-takers will be able to buy the new Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft. However, only the backlit models will be available, and people waiting for the cheaper variant without a front light will have to keep waiting.
The new Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft are ready for purchase
Amazon announced a bunch of new devices in September 2025, including new Fire TVs and Ring cameras. A range of Kindle Scribe models was also announced, and there was plenty for fans to be excited about.
The new Kindle Scribes have been increased in size to 11-inches, weigh less than previous models, and come with a new screen glass that aims to feel much more like paper. The catch? A significant price bump, and a lengthy wait for availability.
Thankfully for fans, the wait is over, and two of the new Scribe models can be bought from Amazon.
The first, the massively upgraded Scribe Colorsoft, is the first Scribe model to come with a color screen, and it marks a big expansion of the Colorsoft line.
It’s worth mentioning that this could be the reason for the delay. The Kindle Colorsoft was plagued by yellow bands at the top and bottom of its display, and Amazon may have been ensuring a similar problem does not befall the new Scribe.
However, that doesn’t explain why the new black-and-white Kindle Scribe was delayed, so it’s really not known why it’s taken so long for the new Scribes to roll out.
The Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft starts from $629.99, while the Kindle Scribe with a front light starts from $499.99. Both are available now from Amazon.
However, it’s worth keeping in mind that the most affordable model, the Kindle Scribe without a front light, won’t be available until some time in 2026. That variant starts from $429.99, so it’s likely to be the model of choice for bargain hunters. If getting the biggest Kindle for less is important to you, then it might be worth waiting for this cheaper variant. It would also mean any potential issues with the range would hopefully be worked out before you buy yours.
