T-Mobile has had a pretty good run over the past decade, going from the undisputed underdog, to being one of the most successful wireless carriers around. It has some of the best pricing you’ll find on cellular plans, while also providing expansive and reliable coverage.
In fact, it was one of the first wireless carriers to offer satellite coverage, making it possible to stay connected in area with no traditional coverage. And while it was initially limited to just texts, we soon got MMS capabilities. T-Mobile is now taking things even further, expanding support for apps in order to provide even more ways to stay connected.
New ways to connect
The brand is now introducing support for popular apps, allowing them to connect using satellite data. As you can imagine, this is a pretty big deal, considering that users will now be able to utilize some of their favorite apps like never before. For now, the list is pretty small, but does include some heavy hitters which I’m sure many will appreciate.
As far as what apps are currently supported, T-Mobile has shared that users will now be able to use X, WhatsApp, along with AllTrails, CalTopo, onX, and AccuWeather. T-Mobile’s own T-Life app will also be available for use, just in case you need to grab that T-Mobile Tuesdays perk while you’re out in the wild.
One thing to note is that while you’ll have data and a connection to those apps, the speed of transfer might not be all that quick or what you’re used to. So you’ll want to temper your expectations if you’re going to use this service. With that said, the great part about this is the T-Satellite is that if you’re on the right plan from T-Mobile, it doesn’t cost any extra.
And if you’re not even with T-Mobile, you can still add the service for just $10/month. For most people, it’s a nice perk to have but something you don’t really need because you’ll have coverage 99% of the time. But if you’re someone that’s frequently out in the wild, where there isn’t traditional reception, you may want to consider investing in satellite connectivity.
Whether it’s from T-Mobile, Verizon, or another source. Although the service is small, it’s something that could end up saving your life. Those interested in T-Satellite can check out the service details and requirements.
