The Galaxy S26 range is on the horizon, with Samsung traditionally launching its new flagships in January. And as is usual, rumors and leaks are rife.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra, as the most expensive S-range, has been the center of a lot of rumors. But now, a notable leaker is claiming the Ultra will get a big charging upgrade that had been previously shot down.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra could get 60W charging after all

A very welcome upgrade

Samsung’s Ultra phones have largely sported the same 45W wired charging rate since the series’ debut in 2020. And while that rate has sufficed for many years, it’s no longer acceptable on a four-figure smartphone. Thankfully, noted leaker Ice Universe is claiming the Galaxy S26 Ultra will lift that charging rate to a more acceptable 60W (via PhoneArena).

The pre-release rumormill has gone back-and-forth on this subject since whispers of the S26 Ultra started. In June 2025, Ice Universe reported the new Ultra would support speeds “faster than 45W”, without a specific new charging rate. Then, it seemed that upgrade wouldn’t really be that huge after all — only for the party to end when Chinese certifications supposedly confirmed a 45W charging rate once again.

Now, the pendulum has swung back the other way, thanks to Ice Universe. It’s worth noting that Ice Universe is one of the most prolific and respected leakers in the game, with a special focus on Samsung’s devices. While we won’t know for sure whether the new Ultra will get this upgrade until the phone’s actual reveal, Ice Universe’s backing for it is worth noting.

Charging speed may not seem like a huge issue, but it’s worth remembering that Samsung has largely been stuck in a rut where refilling batteries is concerned. The Ultra range may have had a 45W charging rate, but a number of its otherwise flagship phones had suffered with 25W charging for far too long. The Ultra raising the game is a big upgrade not just for it, but for the entirety of Samsung’s phone range. The Ultra is still seen Samsung’s vanguard device, and it’s rare to see another Samsung phone get a big hardware upgrade that the Ultra didn’t get first.

As we’ve mentioned, nothing is confirmed until Samsung’s official announcement. But this is one that we really hope will stick, as it would be great for Samsung’s phones to charge a bit faster.
