In 10 days, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta will begin for those who pre-ordered the game and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Ahead of that, Treyarch and Activision detailed what we can expect from the new Call of Duty’s multiplayer, as well as the beta itself.

From the multiplayer overview we got today, it seems the beta will be absolutely packed with content. As such, I’m excited to jump in and try it for myself.

When will Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s beta take place?

And what you can expect from its multiplayer offering

A massive blog post on Call of Duty’s website confirms that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta will take place between 1 p.m. ET on October 2 and 1 p.m. ET on October 8. To access the game throughout that entire period, you’ll need to pre-order the game or subscribe to the highest Game Pass tier. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until 1 p.m. ET on October 5 to play.

The beta will give players an early taste of all the new modes, weapons, perks, and operators that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has to offer. On the game modes front, the main new edition is Overload. In Overload, two teams of six face off as they try to gain control of an Overload Device and set it off in a zone near their opponent’s spawn point.

It’s kind of like the game modes on offer in Valorant and Counter-Strike 2, albeit with respawns. While other modes like Search and Destroy, Gun Fight, Kill Order, Control, and Skirmish will be in the game itself, only the following ones are confirmed for the beta right now:

  • Overload
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Kill Confirmed
  • Hardpoint
  • Training Course

There will also be “Face Off” versions of Domination, Team Deathmatch, Kill Order, and Kill Confirmed that take place on smaller maps and disable scorestreaks. Overall, the game will launch with 16 maps for the 6v6 modes and two maps for Skirmish, the larger-scale mode that seems like Call of Duty’s answer to Battlefield 6.

As is typically the case in a Call of Duty game, players will be able to customize several aspects of their operator and loadout before going into a match. The blog post details many of the individual weapons, field upgrades, and perks that will be available to players, but the main feature it reveals is the “Overclock” system, which lets players unlock additional abilities for those items.

During the beta, players will also be able to use Gunfighter, Overkill, and Perk Greed wildcards to further flesh out their loadout. Overall, it seems like there’s going to be a substantial amount of content in the beta.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was one of the best-received games in the series in a long time, so my expectations are high for a follow-up. Thankfully, enough content appears to be on offer in the beta that I can get a sense of whether Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will live up to the hype.
