Quick Share’s revamped interface on Android is almost here

Android’s Quick Share is a useful tool for sharing or receiving files on your device. Although it has been around for some time now, it’s not quite perfect. Thankfully, we saw evidence of that changing back in April, with a redesigned version of the file transfer tool making an appearance. It has taken a few months, but the revamped Quick Share interface is now rolling out.

The updated Quick Share interface was spotted by Android expert Mishaal Rahman, who shared some screenshots of the long-overdue refinements (via Android Authority). Rahman reportedly spotted the changes on his Xiaomi 15 Ultra, though it doesn’t appear to be widely available yet, including on my Pixel smartphone.

These changes are immediately apparent when you compare them side by side, with the most significant addition being the dedicated Receive tab. By comparison, the existing version of Quick Share only provides access to the settings page, where you can view/change your device’s name and its visibility. With the updated version, the device’s name is mentioned at the top, followed by a “Sharing with you” section that displays the devices sharing files with you.

Meanwhile, Quick Share’s Send screen is also gaining some visual tweaks, with Google adding a file picker to choose the files you want to send. Selecting multiple media files in this fashion will display a preview of those files, according to Android Authority. The option to send files to your own devices is still available under “Send to your devices“, while the “Send to nearby devices” section sits at the bottom of the page.

It’s worth noting that Samsung Galaxy phones with One UI 8 (including beta builds) have had access to this updated version of Quick Share for some time now, featuring both Send and Receive tabs. So it’s been a relatively long wait for all non-Samsung devices, such as Google Pixel phones.

We still don’t know when the Quick Share redesign will become broadly available. However, since some devices are already seeing the updated interface without any manual tinkering, we suspect its rollout is imminent. For now, all we can do is wait.
