MiHoYo has announced that it will be winding down PS4 support for Genshin Impact, its popular multiplayer fantasy action RPG, over the next eight months. It has been playable on that system ever since the game’s launch in September 2020.

This is one of the first major examples of a popular modern multiplayer game outright ending support and finally leaving a last-generation version of their game behind. The studio says hardware limitations influenced its decision.

When will support for Genshin Impact end on PS4?

All the dates and times provided by MiHoYo have been converted to Eastern Time

Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store at 6 p.m. ET on September 9. After that day, those who’ve already played Genshin Impact will still be able to redownload and play it, but new players won’t be able to.

Then, at 5 p.m. ET on February 24, 2026, the ability to make in-game purchases will be disabled on PS4. Finally, PS4 players will no longer be able to log into Genshin Impact, at 6 p.m. ET on April 7, 2026.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the dates North American Genshin Impact players on PS4 should be keeping an eye on:

  • Delisted from PlayStation Store: September 9
  • In-Game Purchases disabled: February 24, 2026
  • Support Ends: April 7, 2026

While Genshin Impact ending its support for PS4 will be frustrating for some players, the game thankfully supports cross-play and cross-progression. That means you can pick up Genshin Impact on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, Android, or iOS and keep playing right from where you left off on PS4 as long as your MiHoYo and PlayStation Network accounts are connected.

When it comes to the reasoning behind the impending end of PS4 updates, the support page explaining this decision references “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size.”

Considering PS4 was released in 2013 in an era before frequently updated live service games were that popular on consoles, that’s understandable. In fact, Genshin Impact is upping the system requirements for the mobile and PC versions of the game as well with the Song of the Welkin Moon update.

At minimum, Genshin Impact will soon recommend a Snapdragon 660 and an operating system of Android 10.0 or above to function properly on Android. For iOS users, MiYoHo now recommends they play on an iPhone 12 series phone with iOS 13.0 or better for the best experience.

Essentially, if you’re playing Genshin Impact on PlayStation, mobile, or PC hardware that is now outdated, you may want to consider upgrading. If you don’t, you may run into game performance issues or an outright end of support soon.
