Roku is rolling out some cool updates to make finding your next binge-watch easier than ever.
Soon after shaking up its homepage to highlight your most frequently used apps and relevant content suggestions, the platform is now giving users even more ways to find the perfect content to stream next, including suggestions for what’s hot right now and even films that have just arrived in theaters.
Back in February, Roku rolled out a new ‘personalized’ row, which, as its name suggests, highlights curated channels based on the user’s engagement. Now, joining that are two new rows that aim to highlight the most searched titles across Roku: Top 10 Movies and Top 10 TV Shows.
Said new rows are refreshed daily to keep you up-to-date on the latest flick that’s trending and catching others’ attention, and can be found in the New & Popular, Movies, and TV destinations.
While the new rows can suggest you what to watch now, Roku’s new In Theaters Now row can tell you what you might want to watch in a few weeks. The new row essentially puts all the new movies hitting theaters front and center, complete with trailers and an option to add said movies to your Save List.
Coming to your Roku over the coming weeks
Elsewhere, Roku is also hopping on the short-form video train with its new Surf Mode. The platform will now highlight short bite-sized clips from movies and shows available on The Roku Channel.
According to the streaming giant, “These curated previews, powered by machine learning, spotlight the full-length shows and movies that are available to stream, so if something grabs your attention, you’re just a click away.” Similar to Instagram and TikTok, the platform’s algorithm will learn your habits and the type of content you like to watch. Based on the short preview, you then decide if you want to dive into the full movie or show.
Joining the curated short-form previews is Roku’s newly-added Newly Added section. The section will highlight the latest channels added to Roku’s Live TV Channel Guide, so you know what exactly to tune into the next time you’re endlessly browsing for something new to watch.
The new Top 10 and In Theaters Now rows, paired with Surf Mode and the Newly Added section, will roll out to Roku users “over the coming weeks.”
