Samsung’s flashy Galaxy S and Z series get most of the press, but it’s the more practical and affordable Galaxy A lineup that tops the sales charts year after year. In fact, as of the latest smartphone sales reports, the $200 Galaxy A16 clocks in as the best-selling Android phone in the world. Now, we’re getting our best look yet at this phone’s sequel.
Android Headlines shared a set of leaked renders showing the upcoming Galaxy A17 in two colors, though the lighter shade only makes an appearance in one image. From the looks of things, Samsung seems to know it has a winning formula on its hands, because the design isn’t a drastic departure from the current Galaxy A16.
A new camera bar to match the rest of the Galaxy A series
The biggest change you’ll notice when compared to the Galaxy A16 is that the rear camera lenses are joined together with a black bar. This follows similar design tweaks to the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 earlier this year.
Around front, the “teardrop” cutout for the selfie camera makes a return, as does the slightly thicker bezel at the bottom of the display.
Despite the bump’s redesign, cameras are said to remain roughly the same. Expect a 50-megapixel primary shooter along with a 5MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP sensor behind the macro lens.
Android Headlines says the phone’s dimensions should remain exactly the same at 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.9mm — but with the camera bar redesign, it’s unlikely that Galaxy A16 cases would work perfectly on the A17. Meanwhile, the 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging are also reportedly unchanged from the last model.
In terms of specs, we can expect a solid processor bump this year, with the A17 using Samsung’s own Exynos 1380. Compared to the Exynos 1330 in the Galaxy A16, this should provide a slight performance increase thanks to two high-power cores running at 2.4GHz and six “little” cores clocked at an even 2GHz. However, it’s worth noting that the 1380 was announced over two years ago, so it’s not a bleeding-edge chip.
The current Galaxy A16 was announced in October 2024 ahead of a January 2025 street date in the US, so we’re expecting the Galaxy A17 to make its debut towards the end of this year or the beginning of next. With an expected price of around $200, this should once again be one of the best-selling Android phones in 2026.
