What started as a small extension of a hosting company has grown into a global web development powerhouse. Domenic Macchione, founder of MotoCoders, shares how his team transitioned from IT infrastructure to full-service WordPress and WooCommerce support — with a focus on performance, security, and long-term client success. We caught up with him to explore MotoCoders’ journey, innovations, and what’s next for the business in this exclusive interview for SafetyDetectives.

How did MotoCoders get started, and how has the company evolved since 2004?

“MotoCoders actually grew out of my earlier company, Rebel Networks, which I started in the early 2000s. Rebel was mainly focused on web hosting and IT infrastructure, but over time, I saw that clients needed more than just hosting — they needed development help to improve and maintain their websites.

So in 2017, I formally launched MotoCoders with two main goals: first, to keep my web development team — who had been working on internal projects — engaged and challenged; and second, to offer our hosting clients dedicated help with web development, improvements, and maintenance.

What began as a small service arm quickly grew. We expanded beyond just websites, building custom applications, integrations, and e-commerce solutions. By 2022, after I sold Rebel Networks, I pivoted MotoCoders into a subscription-based web development model. Today, we’re not just building websites — we’re helping companies secure, maintain, and back up their digital assets, keeping their sites, apps, and systems up-to-date, protected, and running at peak performance.

In short, MotoCoders has evolved from a small dev shop into a full-stack technology partner, solving real business problems with smart, scalable solutions.

What motivated your shift from hosting and telecom to WordPress and WooCommerce maintenance?

The shift really came from listening to what our customers were struggling with. In hosting and telecom, we kept seeing the same pattern: businesses weren’t just asking for servers or bandwidth — they were asking for help keeping their websites running, improving performance, fixing issues, and integrating new tools like WooCommerce.

We realized that just providing the infrastructure wasn’t enough anymore. What mattered was what ran on top of it — the websites, the e-commerce platforms, the custom apps — and how well they were maintained, secured, and optimized over time.

So, moving into WordPress and WooCommerce maintenance was a natural next step. It let us go from being just the guys behind the curtain making sure the lights stayed on, to being true partners helping businesses grow online, improve user experience, and generate real revenue. And honestly, that’s been a lot more rewarding — for us and for our clients.

How do you ensure consistent performance and security across all client websites?

We take a very proactive approach to ensuring consistent performance and security across all our client websites. One of the key ways we do this is by using an open-source management platform that we’ve heavily customized in-house. This system gives us centralized access to all the WordPress sites we manage directly from our servers.

With it, we can perform regular updates, monitor site uptime, manage SSL certificates, and keep a close eye on security vulnerabilities — all in real time. We also track Lighthouse scores to ensure performance standards stay high and integrate Google Analytics data, so we’re not just watching technical health, but also user behavior and engagement.

On top of that, we’ve built automation into the system: patching critical updates, scanning for malware, and flagging performance drops before they become client-facing problems.

In short, we don’t just launch a site and walk away — we actively monitor, maintain, and improve it. That’s what gives our clients peace of mind and keeps their digital presence secure, fast, and aligned with their business goals

What sets your emergency support and troubleshooting services apart from competitors?

“What really sets our emergency support and troubleshooting apart is that we’re always on. We’ve built an automated system of alarms and monitoring tools that alert us the moment something goes wrong — whether it’s a server issue, a security breach, or a sudden drop in site performance.

But what makes it even stronger is our team. We have staff strategically located around the world, which means we can deliver true 24/7/365 monitoring and support. No matter when an issue pops up — middle of the night, holiday weekend, you name it — there’s someone on our team ready to jump in and resolve it.

It’s not just about reacting fast; it’s about catching issues before they become client-facing problems. That mix of proactive monitoring, global coverage, and deep technical experience is what puts us ahead of most competitors who are either limited to office hours or rely on third-party support they can’t fully control.

What’s next for MotoCoders in terms of innovation or service expansion?

What’s next for MotoCoders is expanding deeper into automation, AI integration, and middleware solutions — especially for businesses that need their systems to talk to each other more intelligently.

We’re already helping clients maintain and secure their websites, but the next step is helping them optimize how their web platforms integrate with CRMs, ERPs, marketing tools, and e-commerce systems. We’re also investing in AI-driven tools that can improve things like customer support, lead generation, and even site performance optimization.

On the service side, we’re growing our subscription-based development model — giving clients a predictable, reliable way to continuously evolve their digital presence without having to reinvent the wheel or break the bank every time they want improvements.

In short, the future for MotoCoders is not just about building — it’s about helping clients run smarter, faster, and more connected businesses online.
